Black Academics, Activism and Art at North Central College: 1959-1974

Reception Monday, January 16, 8:30am

This exhibit, curated by Archives student assistants Brandon Barnes and Cynthia Apantenco, focuses on African American North Central College students’ experiences from the civil rights movement in the late 1950s through the development of the Black Power Movement in the 1970s. The exhibit covers the exchange program between North Central and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Atlanta, the development of North Central’s Black Student Association (BSA), and the establishment of a Black Cultural Center (now the Multicultural Center) in Goldspohn Hall. The exhibit, which features pages of The Chronicle, documents from the BSA, an oral history from an African American alumna, and other archival material, is located in the Oesterle Library Reference Room and will be on display through winter term.
