New I-Share Interlibrary Loan Policies

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The I-Share interlibrary loan service will be instituting new policies regarding interlibrary loan.  The new policies, to go in effect August 4, 2010, apply to all students, faculty and staff.  The biggest changes effecting students, faculty and staff who wish to borrow items through the I-Share interlibrary loan service are related to loan periods.

I-Share has instituted a 28 day loan period for all I-Share interlibrary loan items for all students faculty and staff.  Interlibrary loan items can be renewed for an additional 28 days from the current due date a maximum of 3 times.  There are other changes being made to the I-Share interlibrary loan policies that will not effect most users.  If you have any questions regarding the new policies or the I-Share interlibrary loan service please contact the library at (630) 637-5708 or through the chat, text, or email form located on the library homepage.

New Look for Lexis-Nexis

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Popular business and legal database Lexis-Nexis has a new look! Library users familiar with the old look of Lexis-Nexis will remember having to choose which section of Lexis-Nexis they wanted to use upon entering the database. The new design provides search boxes for all search types right on the front page. Users will now be able to search news, legal, company profiles, people or countries right from the main page of the database. Lexis-Nexis as also added a combined search for searching across multiple category types. Advanced search options are still available under each of the category menus, now also available from the start page.

Please feel free to contact the library and speak with one of the librarians if you have questions about using Lexis-Nexis, or any other library resources.

Library materials part of digitization initiative

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Nine books from Oesterle Library’s Tholin Chicagoana Collection have been chosen for the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) Book Digitization Initiative.  The titles that will be digitized are related to two themes, “Shackled by the chains of sin and vice”: White Slavery in Chicago and Souvenirs of the World’s Columbian Exposition.

Selection criteria for items to be a part of the Book Digitization Initiative include: the item must meet the theme of “Illinois Culture and Heritage” and it must be free of copyright restrictions.  Once the books have been digitized they will be freely accessible to users at other members of CARLI and the rest of the world.  Check back on the Oesterle Library blog and website for more information about the digitization timeline and accessing the materials after the digitization has been completed.
