Student Housing – Look how far we’ve come

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Don’t miss the fall archives exhibit in the Lobby of Oesterle Library. The exhibit features a photographic history of student housing at North Central College. When the College moved to Naperville in 1870 students were originally housed in the tower of Old Main. Students were eventually squeezed out of Old Main as the demand for classroom and office space increased.

Bolton and Johnson halls were opened in the mid 1920′s and the first residence hall (Kaufman Hall) was built in 1928. Seager, Geiger, and Rall Halls made their appearance between 1955-1963 and more recent additions for student housing include Patterson and Ward Halls, the Townhomes and the new Residence Hall/Recreation Center.

Hidden Views: Concealment Drawings Art Exhibit

    Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

The Concealment Drawings are a series of acrylic drawings and wood on panel and paper that address artist Judy Rushin’s interest in the obstructed view. They explore the physical spaces created by paintings or drawings as they hang on a wall, using these tiny spaces as metaphor for hiding places. On another level, the gallery becomes a hiding place as the viewer looks out unnoticed from behind the wooden obstruction and into the picture, concealed and protected from the external world.

The exhibit opens Monday, September 7 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Oesterle Library Gallery and is open to the public during regular library hours. The exhibit runs through October 8.
