Post 1 - Intro

Hi everyone. My name is Chris Cervantes and I’m a Junior here at North Central, majoring in Computer Science. A major which, I have to admit, is really fun; we’ve been writing programs with 3D graphics in one of my classes, which is really cool (and fairly challenging). When I can, I’ll post some screen shots, because some of the things are pretty neat. But I digress. In addition to being a Computer Science major, I am also a Commuter Assistant (CA) and the president of Cardinals on Wheels (COW). The CAs are student leaders on campus, analogous to the Resident Assistants, except for commuter students. We are mainly resources for folks to help them get acclimated to college life, to commuting to school, or to going to North Central in particular. We do all sorts of things, which include helping out with the freshman orientation program and continuing to put on programs and stay in contact with all commuter students. COW, on the other hand, is a student organization that aims to bring commuter and resident student together (to facilitate a commuter community here on campus). One could argue -correctly- that the end goal of a CA and a member of COW is very similar, but the tools are different: COW puts on bigger types of programs (we recently took 30 people to a haunted house in the area), but the CAs are student staff, and act accordingly.

But speaking of COW, and our events, this evening is the annual Trick or Treat for the Homeless, a co-sponsored event between COW and Cardinals in Action (a service organization on campus) where we take students out into the Naperville community and trick or treat for non-perishable goods to donate to a local food pantry (Loaves and Fishes). I have participated in the event each year that I have been at North Central, and it is always ton’s of fun. People dress up and really get into it, which makes it all the more fun.

A note on this picture: I love photography. And will, in a later post, detail why, and what kind of camera I have, etc. But I realized I have next to no pictures of myself, which is hilarious, I feel. So instead of some nifty shot of myself, we have a picture I stole from a friend who took it while I was an usher in a wedding this summer.

So this is me, and it’s not half bad.  Myself in a Tuxedo
