The Legend of Ken Ritter

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Tip for all incoming new students or prospective students thinking about coming to North Central. Always attend the Alumni Events, because they supply the best food around campus, and as a college student food is always good and even better when it’s free. For example I attended the annual Hall of Fame in Merner Field House yesterday night. It was a overwhelming experience event because you can see what the former athletes had accomplished and what they are doing to present day. They talked about how North Central impacted their lives and led them to these great accomplishments.

I was lucky enough to meet Ken Ritter (The greatest hitter to ever step foot on Zimmerman Field (Baseball Field)) literally if you don’t know much about baseball getting 1/3 hits a game is good your hitting a .333%. He went 2/4 a game meaning that every two times he got up to the plate he would get a hit at least once giving him a .500% batting average. Let’s just say he’s legit. But that wasn’t it like I said the food was amazing like always. Upstairs in Nichols Gym they had an ice sculpture with all the inductees names engraved in and shrimp all around it. Then they had sliced ham on a skewer and little finger food desserts. It was awesome and FREE!

Food is always a big thing to me because I always go quantity over quality. In college I have learned it is not worth going to sleep with an empty stomach especially when the food was free.

Any ways we start baseball practice in exactly a week from tomorrow and I’m psyched. “Let’s get it on” so until next time my loyal bloggers “Good night good fight”

Don’t Procrastinate

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Here’s a tip in life “Don’t Procrastinate”, it’s not worth it. Overall they say college is the best times of your life, but with every plus their always comes a minus. Lets just say essays are not on my to do list of great activities at North Central. Lesson learned, do them and get them done.

But like I said there are always plus’, you have to look at the positive sides sometimes and that’s what I do. Last Friday I went ice skating through the North Central intramurals. It was awesome although I am not the best skater ever I still had fun and I’m not going to lie I didn’t fall once. (It’s a long ways down let me just say) but like I said there is always something to do on campus. To go along with that I signed up for badminton on Sundays with one of my friends in a doubles tournament, it should be a lot of fun. I haven’t played since like JR. year of PE but I like it a lot. Also hopefully this weekend I can make it to the comedy series that goes on Saturdays, I heard it is hilarious. The things I hear about round campus is endless like I said last blog.

Those are only a few of the opportunities I can take up this weekend, before I freeze to death. WOW let me just say it is freezing outside. I thought that that great weather we had a couple weeks ago would travel us into an awesome trip of like 50’s-60’s, but nope as all of you know its Chicago and the weather here is like the Bulls, inconsistent. But we shall see what happens? Baseball starts up two Mondays from now and I’m psyched. I can’t wait to start practicing at normal times of 930-1200am, instead of 500am mon-thur. Man that sucked, I had to wake up sun-wed @ 430 and go to bed 830. But we got a new coach and let just say he’s not a morning person.

If you all didn’t know I’m a huge music fan, movies and music go hand and hand for me. Queen is my favorite band of all time so here’s the quote of the week

“NCC YOU KNOW”

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I’m going to start this blog off a little different than all the rest. I thought I would start this one off with a quote.

“I Love North Central College”

I have been at North Central for 2 ½ years now and I have never regretted for a second, coming here. I walk from end to end of campus singing or thinking to myself how lucky I am that I chose this school to spend four years at. I knew coming into North Central that I wanted to teach physical education, but I had no idea what that entailed.
I remember when I was a senior in high school, I had a couple meetings with in the college career resource center and we talked about a variety of colleges and what they had to offer. I knew that I wanted to play baseball and I knew I was looking for a smaller school. It so happened that the rep. introduced and talked very highly of this school called North Central College out in Naperville. Naperville is not very far from me at all and I thought yea I’ll take a look out there and see what I like. I took a look and decided that this school was the one for me. I visited as a recruit for baseball and came back for other new student opportunities and loved all of them.
To this day I could not see myself anywhere else. I visit my friends and family at other colleges, but to me I could never see myself out there. The amounts of activities and opportunities here at North Central are endless. I tell the new students during orientation they will never have a night where something is not going on.
I graduate next spring next year and then I’m out into the real world. North Central has given me the confidence and experience to make it out there. I would put North Central up against any other school anywhere. The relationships, the travel abroad opportunities, the experiences, the faculty, the facilities, and everything else this school has to offer is amazing. When people ask me can you see yourself in 5 years, I reply to them “you know I do often think about that question and yea I can see myself teaching PE around Naperville area at an awesome school, with a nice dog, little apartment, with a decent car, and an awesome view on life.”

For the people out there that don’t know what they want to be or major in, don’t worry about it, it will come in time. My mom always said to me growing up and to this day still states “good things happen to good people”, and I hold true to that everyday. But I leave you with this quote and I truly believe in this quote

“North Central College, Where You Are Central”

…………think about it

The Boys are Back in Town

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Well let me just start off with its great to be back, but at the same I wish I were still living it up in Brazil. Yes I said Brazil. I was in Brazil for 3 weeks living the high life. From Samba to Capoeda (a mixture of dance and martial arts) to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and to me getting spiked by a sea urchin.
But I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to study abroad again over D-Term, which is December term. I was in Salvador with a host family for two weeks and then traveled to Rio de Janeiro for 4 days. While I was in Salvador I took Portuguese classes every weekday from 9:00-12:30. The beach was literally 3 blocks from my house and not to make you jealous or anything the temperature never went below 70 degrees and about 90. On the trip there was 10 students and one awesome professor. Through this entire trip we learned about the Brazilian culture and what it entailed. It was of the most fun trips I have ever taken and I was not hesitate to go back. The people in Brazil were some of the nicest and most chilled people I have ever met. But unfortunately time flies when you’re having fun and Brazil was gone and we were back in 6 inches of snow and ice skates on ground. I do miss Brazil very much but getting back home to see my family and friends was just as rewarding.
Now I’m back at the greatest school around North Central College, where the snow is everywhere and its like 5 degrees outside. But I love it here and can tell stories about Brazil until the snow melts away. So if you ever have the chance to travel make you to take advantage of it because you only live once, so live it up.

I’ll leave you with this quote not from a movie but from me
“If you are ever out deep in the ocean in Brazil and theres a lot of rocks around don’t kick and step on a sea urchin”
